The Court Hill Preservation Association is an organization in the state of Iowa that was developed by concerned homeowners living in the Court Hill and Fifth Street Bluff Historic Districts in Ottumwa, Iowa. The group’s primary goal is to promote renovation projects to enhance our unique historic district. Ottumwa has been blessed with some great historic architecture which is truly worthy of preservation. Architects from across the U.S. worked on many of the homes in this area in the mid-nineteenth and early twentieth century. Some of the homes were designed by famous architects and were featured in magazine layouts during the early 1900’s. We believe that much of this history and architecture is being lost because of the expense, time, and effort needed to maintain these historic homes. The organization plans to help local homeowners that live within the boundaries of these districts with their restorations. Court Hill Preservation Association is dedicated to neighborhood improvements. The organization is in the process of developing work groups to help in maintenance and renovation of home exteriors. The work groups are put together with members of the organization that have both professional and real-world experience in historic preservation and renovation. Many of the members have had professional careers in the building trades such as carpentry, roofing, masonry, and painting. This benefits all members of the group by providing expertise and manpower to complete many exterior projects. Education is another vital element of Court Hill Preservation Association. The group is committed to researching properties in the Court Hill and Fifth Street Bluff Historical Districts. The Association hopes that by sharing their knowledge that the information will contribute to the growth and continued improvements based on the rich history of the area. This is an exciting time to get involved! Court Hill Preservation Association celebrates the achievements made when people gather together to better themselves and their community. As Ottumwa takes pride in its past, it gains a larger vision for the future. | |||||
